Escape Chute Installation Rules

The Fire Law of Japan has rules on escape chute installation to secure a safe escape route.

Here we explain a part of the rules.

 

Position of Vertical Escape Chute

Rules on Opening

Opening to attach must be more than 600 mm in width and length. Large enough to handle the entrance fittings and be able to check the expansion of the chute from the entrance when use.

Rules on Operation Area

Rules on operation area

Operation area must be more than 1500 mm in width and depth, including the chute. The shape can be modified as long as it does not harm the operation. In this case, the operation area must be more than 2.25 square meter.

Rules of Descending Space

Rules of Descending Space

Descending space must be more than 1000 mm away from the center of the chute. The chute must be more than 300 mm away from the wall. (When there is a projection, the chute must be more than 500 mm from the tip of the projection. If the projection is within 3000 mm from entrance fittings, it must be more than 300mm.)

Rules of Landing Place

Rules of Landing Place

The landing place must be more than the shadow of the descending space of the chute, and lower exit must be less than 500 mm from the ground.

Descending space must be within 25 degree on upper part and 35 degree on lower part. The chute must be more than 300 mm away from the wall. (When there is a projection, the chute must be more than 500 mm from the tip of the projection. If the projection is within 3000 mm from entrance fittings, it must be more than 300 mm.)

Rules of Landing Place

Rules of Landing Place

Landing place must be more than 2500 mm ahead from the bottom of the expanded chute and more than 1000 mm width on both side from the center line. Also, fixed ring must be installed to connect the bottom supporting equipment. The lower exit must be less than 500 mm from the ground.
